Membership

Built with the people who build it.

A specification or a benchmark is written with the people who will implement it or submit to it. AICFI’s members are the companies and institutions building India’s AI stack.

01Who can join

Every layer of the stack.

Datacentre and GPU operators; tenancy and orchestration vendors; routing and gateway vendors; foundation-model labs; applied AI companies, from enterprise and vertical software to consumer products; IT services firms and global capability centres; start-ups; and academic and research institutions.

Government is not a member. AICFI publishes evidence that government may buy against, and a body whose members include the buyer cannot publish that evidence credibly. People with public-service experience advise AICFI as individuals on its Government Advisory Council.

02Classes

Five ways in.

  1. Charter

Companies and academic institutions that join at incorporation. A Technical Council seat, a vote in general meeting, and standing as a charter member. Academic charter members pay nil or nominal dues.

  2. General

Established companies, operators and vendors. A vote in general meeting, eligibility for the Technical Council, and working-group participation.

  3. Start-up and MSME

Early-stage companies, at reduced dues. Working-group participation.

  4. Academic and non-profit

Universities, research centres and non-profits, at nil or nominal dues. Working-group participation.

  5. Individual contributor

Practitioners taking part in working groups in a personal capacity. No dues and no vote, with real working-group standing.

Dues are set by the board for each class.

03What it involves

Contribution, not a logo.

Membership carries obligations tied to the work a member takes part in. Members:

  • Nominate a technical contributor to at least one working group.
  • Run the conformance suite against each release of an implementation they ship, and publish the result in full.
  • Submit to benchmarks in every category that applies to their systems, once a cycle opens.
  • Contribute data, tooling or deployment findings as each working group specifies.

Dues buy governance rights, not access to the outputs, which are open to everyone. Funding gives no member any say over specification content, test results, evaluation methods or certification decisions, and no member loses its membership because of a result.

04Researchers

Researchers and academics.

  1. Academic members

Institutions join at nil or nominal dues, including as charter members.

  2. Technical Council

Academics sit as independent technical members, whose concurrence the Council needs to adopt anything.

  3. Research Advisory Board

Senior researchers set the direction of AICFI’s Lab and review its work.

  4. The Lab

Researchers join as staff, fellows, or visiting and adjunct researchers alongside a university post, under agreements with their home institutions.

Researchers are free to publish what they find. AICFI delays publication only to protect confidential material, to allow coordinated disclosure of a security vulnerability, or to keep out unlawful content.

05How to join

Start with a conversation.

  1. Write to us

At contact@aicommons.in, saying which class interests you and where your work sits in the stack.

  2. Talk it through

Which working groups you would join, and what you would contribute.

  3. Sign and be admitted

A membership agreement, then admission by the board.

Organisations incorporated outside India are welcome to get in touch. We are confirming the basis on which they can be admitted under Indian law before admitting any.
